March 2005 - "Tubing" -
Taylor coming up the Magic Carpet
Carter coming up the Magic Carpet
Carter coming off the Magic Carpet, our friend Jeff on the left - sorry for the blur...
The hill - 5 lanes
Carter going down the hill - yes, he makes it, thanks to the walls. He and Taylor probably each went down 25-30 times! I went once, thank you very much.
Carter, spinning down
Carter, still on his way down
Eek - into the darkness - this is later
Here's Carter taking off again. See the strap? That's what Mom held onto, and the let go. Not a good feeling for a Mom to "let go"
There's Carter again
Friend of Taylor, and Taylor
Taylor getting ready to go - the long black strap is in my hand
Taylor going down while LAYING down!!! Her friend is on the right. They were racing!
Carter in the distance coming up the Magic Carpet
The hill
Carter, with a funny crooked smile, ready to go down. Nice reflectors on the snowpants
And he's off again...
In New England, they call sled riding or sledding, "SLIDING." To me, "SLIDING" is something I do right before I'm about to bust my bottom and FALL DOWN. ha. Well, our local ski area has a "tubing" hill, complete with a "magic carpet". At one point my son fell off the magic carpet (on purpose) and got his tube "stuck" underneath, not ever dreaming that Mommy would come to the rescue on foot, and discover that it wasn't caught at all. It was just that the engineering of it all got the best of him, and he had to lay on the ground and look underneath to see how it worked. At least he didn't start to dismantle it, like he does most things. So - physics people - did I do myself a favor by losing weight, or do I weigh too much? Right when we first got there, I decided, I, the Mom, would go down in a tube at least once...HOLY COW... The kids had both just gone down, and were slowly making their way to the magic carpet. So, I figured I could make a quick run down before they got back up there. I WENT A LOT faster than I ever dreamed. Taylor said "Mommy, I heard you scream..." ha. Sorry, honey, Mommy was just having "fun." At least no one witnessed the look on my face, whatever it was. At first, as I was released by the helper guy - I was gently spinning in circles as I went down, thinking, "well isn't this nice?", and then I started ripping down that hill like nobody's business. I was picking up so much speed so fast I couldn't believe it. Complete with a very intimidating whirring sound. My first reaction was the imaginary brake by putting my foot down a bit to slow myself which resulted in the largest facefull of snow I could have ever hoped for. I really thought I was going to launch right up over the snowbank which is put there to stop people, but luckily I did not. It clearly explains why thrill seekers get a "rush" out of things like that (I know this is SO mild in some of your minds - but remember, this is all new to me.) What a riot. The kids had a ball, and despite being frozen, were so sad to go. We went into the lodge, and sat with our feet around the fire. It was very nice and cozy. I had time to chat with my lady friends while the kids rested. |
